Py, nestled in a fairly wide valley

The town of Py in the Pyrénées-Orientales department is located 31 miles (50 kilometers) as the crow flies from the city of Perpignan. It had 80 inhabitants in 2019 who bear the name of Pinencs and covers an area of 19.31 sqmi (50.86 km2). The village is located in a fairly wide valley, surrounded by the mountains of the ‘Bas-Conflent’ (low ‘conflent’) on the border with the Haut-Conflent (upper ‘conflent’). The region of Conflent, of which the village of Py is a part, is the heiress of the former county of Conflent and the ‘viguerie’ of Conflent. This area corresponds to all the Pyrenean valleys which converge – as its name suggests in French – on the edge of the Roussillon plain.
