The highest point of the Massif Central and the highest volcano in mainland France, Puy de Sancy (6,187 feet / 1,886 metres) is an alpine-looking summit with steep slopes and jagged ridges, radically contrasting with the other peaks of the Massif Central, apart from certain peaks of the Monts du Cantal. It is surrounded by other craggy peaks or rocks such as Puy Ferrand, Dent de la Rancune or Crête de Coq.
