Purifiers of the biological cycle
0

If vultures are considered sacred or repulsive according to times and civilizations, they act above all as purifiers in the biological cycle. These necrophagous raptors feed on the carcasses of wild or domestic animals and thus eliminate the risk of disease outbreaks. In India and the Himalayas, the symbolic dimension of the vulture is essential, and various ethnic groups still deliver the remains of their dead to the birds considered to be the carriers of the souls of the deceased. Thanks to their highly developed eyesight, Griffon Vultures generally hover circularly and locate carcasses by working in networks with their congeners. This system ensures the foraging efficiency of the group, whose collective feeding is known as a cleanse.
