Pure classical Gothic

Between 1190 and 1230, the classical Gothic style became the norm, with a monumental three-level elevation (large arches, triforium, and high windows) and the use of counterforting and buttresses to support the central nave of the churches. The great technical innovation is the buttress, which counteracts the forces of the nave. The high windows thus became even more vertical. The major period of the Gothic style begins in the 14th century, during which ornaments and decorations were pushed to the limit. It is known as the period of the radiant Gothic.
