Pueroria Lobata for the plant mesh of 'bougna'
The 'bougna' or Kanak stew is wrapped in banana leaves kept closed by a clever mesh of plant lianas from the Pueroria family, including Pueroria Lobata. An invasive exotic species, this plant with woody stems can climb trees up to 65 to 98ft (20 to 30m) high. Its vine-like stems hang on all supports and can gain 11.8in (30cm) per day.
