'Pu', the sound of the ocean

Called 'pu toka' or 'pu' in Polynesia, the conch is a musical instrument made from a triton shell. The musician blows into a hole pierced at the end of the shell or on the side. The air vibrations produce a sound that goes out through the opening of the conch. This sound can be modulated by blocking more or less its passage. The conch is a very old instrument, formerly used at sea to warn other boats like the current foghorn.
