Protecting a Canal du Midi's landmark
0
0
A disease affecting the famous plane trees along the banks of the Canal du Midi, the colored canker forces the systematic felling of all affected trees to prevent its spread. The tree-lined canopy is a distinctive sign and a particular attraction of the canal for both tourists and boatmen. The national operator Voies Navigables de France has consequently made its protection and reconstitution a priority. Its plan relies on the establishment of appropriate new species of trees.
