The Schoenenbourg vineyard is mentioned for the very first time around 1300. Everything would indicate that the vines already covered the slopes of the hill in the time of the Romans nonetheless, ever since the beginning of vine-growing in Alsace. The richness of the soil and the sunny slopes sheltered from the north wind convinced the winegrowers in search of land favorable to the culture of the vine.
