The Lérins islands and particularly Sainte-Marguerite, the closest to the mainland, are protected by the double belt of hills of the Estérel massif and the Prealps of Grasse. Its location gives the archipelago a high nocturnal atmospheric humidity and protects it against cold winds from the north and north-west, like the mistral and the tramontane. The islands are also subject to an alternation of land breeze at night and sea breeze during the day, which alleviates the hot summer temperatures.
