Protection of the terrestrial buffer zones

In New Caledonia, the environmental pressures mainly come from the land. They are linked to human activities even if they remain relatively limited given the low population density and compared to most of the other sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. A special attention is therefore paid to the terrestrial buffer zones - such as the mangroves of the North and East coastal zone - whose ecological importance is widely recognized.
