As a people of the oceans, Polynesians have always associated submarine and terrestrial life by traditionally extending their property rights from the mountain to the coral reefs. Faced with the rarefaction of the ichthyofauna, they resume the practice of 'rahui' - setting aside some of the lagoons by a temporary fishing ban - to regulate the resources and regain the past abundance.
