Protecting lifes and souls
The two bell towers of Riquewihr seem to compete with each other, although they did not have the same function. At the entrance to the ramparts, the Dolder tower stands on four floors. It is a defensive building on one side and a belfry to the other. Its little bell rang as strangers approached the city. That of the Protestant temple of Sainte Marguerite only played to call its believers. It was once dedicated to both Catholic and Protestant worship. The two towers remain symbols of the medieval city.
