The Lorraine Regional Nature Park is home to a great diversity of wetlands. Humid forests, ponds, and wet meadows hold a primordial ecological role in the area. The botanical richness of Lake Madine's coves and basins is monitored by the Natura 2000 program to maintain the balance between flora and fauna. It is essential for the survival of the thousands of birds that nest or rest there during migration. The lake and its area are classified as ZNIEFF (Natural Areas of Ecological, Faunistic, and Floristic Interest).
