The Hermann's Tortoise (Testudo hermanni hermanni) is legally protected at the international level by the Washington Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species and the Bern Convention. In its Annex II, the latter prohibits any form of capturing, keeping, or killing tortoises; deterioration of their breeding and roosting sites; disturbance during breeding, rearing, and hibernation; destruction or collection of eggs from the wild and trade in live, dead and naturalized tortoises as well as their derived products.
