The ruins of the Vaucluse Castle or Castle of the Bishops of Cavaillon that dominate the Sorgue river bear witness to the rich history of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. They date from the beginning of the 13th century, even though the castle was probably built at the same time as the church, around 1030. An act reporting its donation to the bishops of Cavaillon mentions it as early as 1034.
