The degraded oceanic climate, belonging to the temperate climate, is characterized by mild and humid winters and cooler summers than subtropical climates. It constitutes par excellence the climate that allowed agricultural activities to develop in Western Europe. The limestone richness of the soils brings the necessary elements to the vines. They are rich in microorganisms and small mollusks that fill the ground with minerals. The chalk layer retains the underground water and allows the vine to benefit from continuous supply. Fertile and conducive to life, the Reims Mountain area has been inhabited since prehistoric times.
