The Comtois horse has a rectilinear profile, which means that the bone of its muzzle - i.e. the anterior part of its head from the base of the forehead to the nostrils - is straight. This rectilinear profile of the Comtois horse suggests that it has Arab ancestry. Crossings with oriental stallions during the Spanish sovereignty of Franche-Comté, and particularly the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648), would have brought to the Comtois breed this distinction which continues to characterize it.
