Surfcasting consists of casting a fishing line at least 328 ft (100 m) from the reels, even though some reach 524 ft (160 m). Experienced fishermen choose the exits from baïnes, estuaries, and pits, where small fish attract larger ones such as bars, pouts, whitings, or plaices. The baits are often small bloodworms or small crustaceans. At sunset, the end of Granville's pier is crowded, as it is the best moment for surfcasting.
