In the Var department, the town of Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer extends on the Corniche des Maures, in the coastal but nevertheless rocky and jagged part of the Massif des Maures. It offers a wide panorama of the Mediterranean Sea and the islands of Hyères. Difficult to access and almost deserted until the end of the 19th century, the region developed its tourist vocation thanks to the breakthrough of the Provence railroad in 1885, which gave rise to major development and access works.
