The Domaine du Rayol escaped real estate speculation in the 1970s thanks to the mobilization of local associations such as the Association des Amis du Rayol. At the start of the 1980s, the public authorities and the municipality of Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer in the Var department initiated a project to protect the estate's garden and revise the land use plan. They aimed to create a site with listed wooded areas pending the purchase of the Domaine du Rayol by the Coastal Protection Agency in 1989.
