Since the 90s, various initiatives ranging from the collection of information to the planting of vegetal species, including creative workshops, initiation courses and festive gatherings have been carried out in New Caledonia in favor of the preservation and promotion of the traditional weaving techniques. They are often the work of women's associations such as that of the Comaco women of Tieti in the region of Poindimié who planted pandanus in the early 2000s to provide the leaves needed for the Melanesian dances and basketry.
