The Kanak languages threatened by the break-up of the traditional lifestyles, the teaching in French and the urban development of New Caledonia are the subject of a proactive territorial policy aimed at maintaining the possibility of a daily linguistic use, and at creating the conditions for heritage preservation. Some of them have been integrated into the school curricula in order to compensate for a declining clan and intergenerational transmission.
