Before starting to turn, the wood turner prepares his tools like a surgeon does with his instruments and places them within easy reach. He will use different ones during the shaping of a same piece, depending on the direction of the wood fibers and of the machining as well as on the shape he wishes to achieve. Its main tools are gouges of all kinds, chisels, planes, scrapers and barley twists.
