First observations of white lions
In 1975, a den containing two white lion cubs (male and female) and their fawn sister about 8 weeks old was spotted in the Timbavati Game Reserve. The following year, another white lion cub was briefly observed in a group of normal lions before disappearing and being presumed dead. Since their discovery, white lions have been hunted and forcibly extracted from their endemic natural habitat. Nowadays, organisations like Global White Lion Protection Trust actively and successfully work for their preservation in the wild.
