The site of Serre-Ponçon lake alternates between wooded areas and open environments which remain very present and very diverse on the lake bordering territory. There are large areas of hay meadows located between hills and mountains, but also dry meadows with erect brome (Bromus erectus), even drier lawns in the limestone areas and alpine to subalpine lawns. The hay meadows and pastures provide the fodder and fresh grass necessary for traditional breeding.
