Since the 1980s, the Polynesian public authorities have massively supported the development of potato cultivation on the island of Tubuai in the context of small family-type farms. Tubuai was chosen for climatic and socio-political reasons in order to constitute the basis of a prosperous agricultural economy in this remote archipelago and to contribute to fix the population there.
