Situé à 50kms de Helsinki, Porvoo est une des plus ancienne ville de Finlande. Ces charmantes maisons rouges sur la berge de la rivière Porvoonjoki étaient autrefois des entrepôts destinés à entreposer des marchandises et denrées exotiques venant de très loin. A l'origine ces maisons ont été peintes en ocre rouge à la fin du XVIIIe siècle pour accueillir le roi Gustav III. De plus, l'ocre rouge a contribué à protéger contre les dommages du vent et du soleil.
