Cette sculpture du portail de la basilique Saint Martin à Tours fait référence à l’histoire de Martin. Dans sa jeunesse, Martin de Tours était un légionnaire romain, entré dans l’armée romaine, en tant que fils de vétéran, au grade de « circitor » (chargé des rondes de nuit). Il restera dans cette armée, à différents postes, pendant environ 25 ans.
