Saint-Nicolas bridge was the first bridge built over the river Yonne in the 12th century. It bears the name of the patron saint of mariners. Over the centuries, its initially wooden architecture has been solidified by stone arches. In the 16th century, houses were built on the bridge but, after several fires, it became a simple road axis between the old town and the left bank of Joigny.
