Arm pumps are a type of hand-operated pump. The principle of these pumps established in ancient Greece and put into practice by ancient Rome, is found in the domestic, rural or urban piston pumps set up by the fountain, especially in the 18th and 19th centuries. In terms of fountaining, a pump refers to a machine made up of cylindrical pipes of wood, lead or gossip, a piston and valve, which is used to draw water and raise it. Pumping is the equivalent of moving the piston from a pump to raise the water.
