Unlike other Arctic mammals such as the Arctic fox, the polar bear does not have a darker coat in summer. Its fur, in harmony with the melted snow, just yellows a little more. In fact, its hair is not white but unpigmented and hollow like human white hairs. They absorb violet and ultraviolet rays giving its whole fur a yellowish appearance.
