Depending on the water level of Serre-Ponçon lake as well as on the angle and distance from which it is observed, Saint-Michel chapel clearly appears as isolated on an islet lost in the middle of the water or seems attached to dry land. The site is particularly highlighted from the belvedere built on the national road N94 which borders the north west shore of the lake in the municipality of Prunières.
