Mont Ventoux is the highest point of the Monts de Vaucluse and the Vaucluse department, with an altitude recently revised down to 6,263 ft (1,909 m) instead of the former 6,269 ft (1,911 m). Geometers recalculated the mountain's altitude in June 2017 at the request of the municipality of Bédoin, which asked for precise measurements in order to be able to provide certificates of elevation gains difference to a large number of cyclists. A sign indicating 1,909 meters has been placed at the top of the road, in front of the souvenir shops, where the former 1,911 meters sign was stolen.
