Stove in the weapons room
0
0
Numerous earthenware stoves heated the 22 rooms of the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle. Most of them were reconstructed with the tiles found in the ruin. The one in the weapons room rests on four green ceramic lions. Its tiles are decorated with knights, fantastic animals, floral decorations, or battle scenes. The stove was executed in 1907 in Nuremberg and is inspired by a specimen from 1501, kept in the Austrian fortress of Hohensalzburg. The tradition of manufacturing these stoves, or kokelhofs, continues today in Alsace and Germany.
