Although mostly composed of keratin - like our fingernails or our hair - powdered rhinoceros horns are very popular in South-East Asia, where they are attributed therapeutic and aphrodisiac virtues. Demand keeps on increasing. Other countries use rhinoceros horns to make objects such as daggers, sculptures or trophies. For all these reasons, poaching is one of the main threats that African rhinos are facing.
