The 'qimmiq' - 'polyvalent working dog' in Inuktitut - is a Canadian Eskimo dog chosen by the federal territory of Nunavut as official animal. A descendant of the wolf, it is one of the five breeds of sled dogs all used to the social hierarchy of the pack and hating loneliness. Accustomed to sleeping outside in the cold and to hunting its own food, it is very affectionate and gentle with children and extremely loyal to its masters.
