The ‘Canal du Midi’ owes part of its reputation to the trees along it. More than 180 000 plane trees (out of which 45 000 planted during the reign of King Louis XIV during its construction) are aligned along the canal’s banks. However, the days of this famous visual are numbered. A mushroom from the USA (Ceratocystis Fimbriata ssp. Platani) is attacking the plane trees and provoking an overwhelming sickness called colored canker that will make inevitable the felling of almost all of those trees in less than 20 years…
