Pinisi, a traditional sailboat
7
0
The Pinisi are traditional Indonesian sailboats which continue to be built in the shipyards of the Tanah Beru shores near the town of Bira, south of the island of Sulawesi. La Galigo, the ancient manuscript of the Bugis people, traces their existence back to the 14th century. Traditionally used for the transport of goods including spices through the archipelago and beyond, they still transport wood and rice but also cement, tiles, cigarettes and mopeds even if most of them are now equipped for cruises and expeditions.
