South of the Gulf of Pinarellu, the path of customs officers of Capu di Fora leads to the Pinarellu Island, nicknamed the island of Corsairs (Isola dei Corsi). This green island of holm oaks groves and low maquis is accessible by boat or on foot, by crossing the small arm of the sea which separates it from land. With the Fautea, Benedettu and San Ciprianu Towers, the Pinarellu Tower protected the area of Porto Vecchio from the maritime invaders during the Genoese era.
