The Pharo Garden, or Émile-Duclaux Park, surrounds the Pharo Palace built in the 19th century at the request of Louis Napoleon Bonaparte as a gift to Empress Eugénie. It offers a privileged view of the Old Port and the north coast of Marseille, the Mucem, and the procession of ferries leaving the port. Covering an area of 14 acres (5.7 ha), the park also houses a monument erected in homage to the sailors who died during the First World War.
