The Besse-Pertuyzat-Montchal Nordic ski sector – located around the small Pertuyzat resort whose facilities can be seen in this photo – offers the best cross-country ski trails in the Sancy sector. Located at 3,937 feet (1,200 metres), near Lake Pavin, Puy Montchal, Puy de Montcineyre and Lake Chauvet, it offers a beautiful variety of landscapes ranging from deciduous and coniferous forests to large plateaus devoid of vegetation. It is connected to the Nordic ski area of Super-Besse-Madalet and Chareire-Picherande.
