Perpinyà, the Catalan name of Perpignan

Perpinyà is the Catalan name for Perpignan, a town in the south of France and the fourth most populous city in the Occitanie region. This city, the southernmost of the large cities of metropolitan France, is the former continental capital of the Kingdom of Mallorca. It was annexed by the Kingdom of France in 1659. The first mention of the city of Perpignan dates back to an act dated May 20, 927 and the history of the city does not begin before the tenth century, and it is in the Middle Ages that it sees its biggest development. At the time, Perpignan's success was due to the decision of the Counts of Roussillon to make it their capital.
