The Canadian permafrost, mainly formed after the last glaciation, has modified over time with the climate changes. Its southern limit continues to move according to global warming. It remains present at high latitudes and altitudes where the winters are not only long and cold but where the thin snow layer on the ground is not insulating enough to protect it against the icy temperatures.
