The village of Gordes extends at an altitude of 1,115 ft (340 m) on a rocky limestone outcrop straddling the reliefs of the Monts de Vaucluse to the north and the Calavon plain, also called the Vallée Nord Luberon, to the south. Its territory of 11,871 acres (4,804 ha) rises from 364 ft (111 m) above sea level at the Alba plan in the southwestern sector of the Garrigue to 2,083 ft (635 m) near Pouraque and the Trois Termes to the north. The two main rivers of Sénancole in the west and Véroncle in the east have played an essential role in Gordes' economic and urban development.
