The regular evaluation of the number of Giant clam fishermen and of the changes in the distribution and density of aggregation of these molluscs makes it possible to monitor the state of the Raivavae lagoon ecosystem. The management measures for the Giant clam fishery are thus adapted to the particular context of the island, in collaboration with the island community, made responsible and accountable for the respect of the recommendations.
