The main fish species caught in the Arctic zone are salmons, herrings, cods and Arctic charrs. The Inuits traditionally practice ice harpooning which requires both skill and a good knowledge of the fish movement patterns to know where to drill the ice. The fish intended for winter consumption is dried.
