After centuries of looting, red coral fishing is supervised nowadays. The association of coral fishermen from Corsica decided with the Regional Administration of Marine Affairs not to harvest the red coral above 50 m (164 ft) depth and establish a fallow system. When picking it, they leave a minimum of 7 mm (0,3 in) on the foot of the coral.
