Outside the Sancy massif, the typical landscape of the Monts Dore presents a hollow and bumpy shape with rather rounded domes. The valleys were dug in the sectors of the least resistant rocks, the more resistant flows and dykes remained in relief. The ground was covered with meadows and a few peat bogs, here obscured by snow, as well as deciduous and coniferous forests.
