Pastoralism preserves the landscapes of the so-called Auvergne cow mountain, while also protecting the environment. The revegetation of areas originally dedicated to winter sports makes it possible to regain useful surfaces for livestock farmers, and brings back a traditional green landscape, attractive for tourism. The ecological and environmental awareness at the origin of this trend is therefore reinforced by economic arguments.
