The terrestrial varan has 4 well-developed legs each with five elongated fingers armed with powerful and hooked claws. In the forelegs, it is the thumb or inner finger, which is the shortest, the third finger being the longest. On the rear legs, the four internal fingers successively increase in length. It uses its claws to maintain its preys or to tear it up.
